The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) may soon move from the existing OMR-based exam to a computer-based testing (CBT) format, according to NTA Director General Abhishek Singh. A high-powered panel led by Nandan Nilekani is currently working on reforms to the examination process.
NEET 2027 CBT: Online Format Planned for NEET UG?
The recent announcement has raised interest among NEET aspirants about the possibility of conducting NEET 2027 in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. While reports indicate that NTA is working towards this transition, the final decision is yet to be officially confirmed. The NEET 2027 Information Bulletin will provide details on the exam mode, dates, pattern, duration, and other instructions. Until then, students should rely only on official NTA updates and continue their preparation as usual.
What to Expect from NEET UG CBT Compared with OMR
If NEET UG moves from the existing OMR-based format to computer-based testing (CBT), candidates would experience some changes in how they attempt the examination. Instead of marking answers on a separate OMR sheet, students would read the questions and select their responses directly on a computer screen.
Candidates may need to adapt to:
- Reading questions and answer choices on a computer screen
- Selecting, changing, and reviewing answers digitally
- Moving between questions using on-screen navigation
- Managing time in a computer-based environment
- Completing rough work according to the instructions provided at the examination centre
A CBT format could also support digital monitoring, stronger examination security, and faster processing of responses as part of the NTA’s broader examination reforms. However, the exact CBT interface, navigation features, rough-work arrangements, exam shifts, and other candidate instructions have not yet been officially announced.
Students should therefore wait for the NEET 2027 Information Bulletin and check the official NTA NEET website for the latest official updates and confirmation regarding the examination mode and other important details.
